The long awaited results are in!

You guys have no idea how long it took us to get to this decision. Weeks of debate with endless email threads, I didn’t think we’d ever get a winner. With entries ranging from cute to badass to hilarious, every single one had something to offer. To say the least, choosing just one was a grueling task. However, in the end there could only be one… and our winner is lacutus with his submission of Sunny-Side Up.

“They say life isn't easy for a boy named Sue. Imagine what life must have been life for a man with dippy eggs for eyes. Years of ridicule and mocking have driven this once mild-mannered salesman to commit acts of extreme and misdirected destruction. Every time he smashes a car; its Cindy who turned him down for prom, every post office he levels; that's his wife saying she can't spend another second married to a monster, That bank he robbed; the kid who pushed him off of the swing.

When your mouth is a strip of bacon, no one can hear you scream.”

Congratulation lacutus, for demonstrative creativity, originality, and simply making us laugh. As for your prize, we have prepared your guest spot in the comic… a mini arc starring Sunny-Side Up!

Now, even though there’s one winner, there is a certain entrant that deserves an honorable mention. That entrant is Runner Up, Goky Ace Takal, with her female hero A.C.E. Dawkins.

… and that she did. With a total of four pages detailing nearly everything that’s needed to know about her character. From color scheme, character design, origin, personality, how to write her in, nothing was left out. By reading it over and looking at her designs, you can clearly see the hard work and enthusiasm that went in to creating her character. Good job young lady, we'll give you something very soon. Keep an eye out on your inbox.

Finally, I would like to say THANK YOU to all that submitted. The contest turned out great. We really appreciated everything you put into your characters. Who knows, maybe I’ll just plop them in the background at some point for a cameo (unless you’re opposed to that, lemme know).

Happy Belated 2012

Hello there readers and internet people alike, HAPPY NEW YEAR. Can you believe it, it's 2012. I worked on this image but never got around to finishing it on time. I figure this is better than nothing. Sorry, I know we haven't been the best at punctuality and life has seemed to really impede progress...we're sorry. Team regrbl would like to thank you for bearing with us and for your continued readership.

Just a couple of quick things...

The fantabulous convention known as
Setsucon has once again opened its doors for an amazing two day adventure. As always, we will be attending, however, no table this year. Still, any of you fans who would like to show your love, just go and grab yourself a badge and booklet. You'll notice the lovely artwork was done by both Green and I. Anyway, we'll be wandering the halls, so feel free and say hi.

Also, our friends over at Conquest Tactics brought us some great news. As you may know, they've launched their amazing card game late last summer, and now have the opportunity for nation wide distribution... with one condition. They need to improve their quality of their packaging. I hope everyone’s Halloween weekend was quite the spooktacular treat. Speaking of treats, I received an email of a comic idea for the Halloween season. I saw it and laughed… Truly, an example of brilliant comedic execution. Figured we should share it with you all.

Generation Hope: Where it's still okay to be Blue and naked

So I've been recently catching up on several comics I've been neglected for many months now, and one of the titles I've been reading is an X-men title by the name of Generation Hope.

The story centers around this new team of mutants who are known as the 5 Lights who are led by Hope Summers living on Utopia, a haven for mutants. Now for those of you who don't follow X-Men ( I'm not sure why you don't, maybe you just don't read that many comics or you hate mutants, or worse... you're a DC fan...) some little back story before this comic line started: After M-Day the Decimation wiped out the mutant population leaving only 198 mutants, Hope Summers was born as the first mutant since then. After a huge hoopla was made to keep her alive she traveled to the future with Cable and now she's back to present time where newer mutants are showing up and it's up to Hope to save them.

The first 5 she helps are known as the 5 Lights, which brings me to the point of this post, the first girl Hope saved is a highly intelligent girl named Laurie Tromette who goes by the codename Transonic.

Yes folks, she's got blue skin and naked. It would seem that in the marvel universe as long as you've got blue skin you're either not classified as nude or you're allowed to walk around nude, however this only applies to females - you don't see nightcrawler or beast strutin' around in the buff.

Laurie possesses the powers of self propelled flight and can travel at transonic speeds. Naturally to make sense out of it I rationalized that she flies so fast that her clothes can't withstand the speeds she travels at, so there's no need for clothes at all. Alas, i still remain confuzzled because sometimes Laurie can be seen actually wearing clothes.

I continued to rationalize that when she's in the field of duty she strips down and when she's maxin' n relaxin' she puts something on, which seems to be half true. When the team suits up for a mission Laurie sports her blue birthday suit, even one of her teammates, Gabriel made the comment about it. Although she does wear clothes while off duty she also has been seen nekkid too. Which leaves me to conclude:

Mission Ready = nude mandatory
Takin it easy as a teenage mutant girl = clothing optional

To try and find out why she's nekkid I searched online only to find that there are many other marvel fans and readers who've been perturbed by this. Eventually I came across an explanation stating that Laurie is naked but is also covered up by some sort of thin exoskeleton. If so, I wish the writers/artists would have her evolve her abilities so it could maybe look like she's wearing armor or I dunno maybe give her an actual uniform to wear - silly idea, I know. 'But Green, you said earlier that clothes wouldn't be able to withstand her transonic speeds,' why yes, but it's the marvel universe! Cyclops can swing by the baxter building ask Reed Richards to do him a solid and make a uniform out of those unstable molecules so that Utopia doesn't have a teenager running around naked 24/7.

I'll end with this; one of the more recent issues Laurie gets into a lil scuffle with Hope, and is seen being hit and tossed around and the images can be a bit... disconcerting.

Let me just say, I'm so sorry

I know we did a cop out comic last friday, so another one so soon is pretty much just bullshit. However, I also know that our readership is filled with loyal and very VERY understanding, beautiful people. People that know that Green and I were hit with too many things to do with too little time to do it. Within the past two weeks I have gone days without sleep barely making deadlines. I'm so sorry that it has come to the point where the comic has suffered. I'll try harder to make sure this doesn't become a frequent thing.

We thank you for bearing with us.

So as you must know by now, Green and I are in Seattle for PAX Prime. The game is Word Fighter and the new game build has got some great things. With all six characters finally playable and unique powers added, I'm sure people are going to have a great time playing it this weekend.

As for the con, so far it's been pretty awesome and it hasn't even started. Touring the vast convention space, we saw so many games we can't wait to try out. It's pretty cool to see a con get set up and everyone pulling together to make it all look so perty. Anywho, we'll report more on this con later.

... along with Otakon and Bmore ComicCon??

We'll see. Right now I'm beat. Red sleep now.

Otakon looms, coswork begins

With Otakon around the corner, it's that time again... the time for Cosworking! As per our tradition we wait till the week of Otakon to start working on our cosplay. I've been working on stuff with Red and Cup, so these are just some random pics of our progress so far.

Can you guess what we'll be cosplaying? In some of the photos are items being made that'll hint at what we've chosen to cosplay this year (they'll probably give it away, if you know your stuff).

I know the rest of our cosplay group is working feverishly to finish in time for Otakon as well, Good Luck guys! and good luck to all who are cramming to complete their grand outfits to grace the halls of Otakon!

Conquest Launch and PAX 10

So I have some fantastic news. This august Green and I will be attending two conventions. The first will be Baltimore Comic-Con. As you may remember, we did art for Conqust Tactics and to celebrate their game launch, they have an exhibitors and artist booths.

Then the following weekend, we will be flying to the west coast to the home of the invention of overpriced coffee, Seattle. There we will be attending PAX Prime and manning our booth as one of the PAX 10 winners!!!

That’s right, the game Green and I have been working on, Word Fighter, has been selected as one of the top 10 indie games. When Gian gave me the news at work, I couldn’t help geek out hard. Nothing more than pure validation. Thank you Feel Every Yummy.

August is going to be crazy. Are you excited!? Of course you are.

So in short, for you east coast fans see you at Baltimore Comic-Con. For the west coast fans, see you at PAX 10. Hope you all can make it out and show your regrbLove.

Word Fighter Character Designs

Oh hello friend

Well as you all must know, are production side has been hitting a few bumps lately. Still, we’re pumping out those comics twice a week. That something … right?

We do appreciate the readership, sooooooo here, as stated earlier, an art post!

The game is slated to release late this summer and with it a total of 6 unique playable characters. Here we see the character Green designed, miss Agatha.

Next up, Edgar, which is the character I designed.

Alongside the final image are some character evolutions. I figured we’d give you a snapshot of the changes each character has made along the way.

The funny thing about this is the original iteration of the game was completely different. The overall aesthetic was very Street Fighter. The problem was that it had too much of a grungy attitude for a casual game. So, after its promotional run at GDC and PAX East, a drastic change was made. With some brainstorming and sketching, the new Word Fighter was born.

Too Many Games Expo

Happy Tuesday everybody

I hope you all had a great weekend and mother's day. Aside from missing time with the lovely lady who spawned me, I had a pretty great weekend too.

As I mentioned earlier, I was in Philly attending the Too Many Games Expo. The experience was awesome. I was there as an artist, but not for our modest webcomic, but for the new game by Feel Every Yummy.

As for the con, it was a giant nerd oasis. From modern to retro, music to art, nearly everything video game related was conveniently mushed into one roof. It's biggest draw was the overnight lan party. I saw a guy in a sleeping bag in the bathroom and an air mattress near the lan area. Hardcore.

To makes things even better, one of the ReGrBladies dropped by, Teresa(ReGrBlady Red). You'd think a girl would get bored in a place like this, but not the case with her. She spent most of her time playing video games and getting hit on. Wasn't too hard to find her either, she was the girl beating people at Dr. Mario. Also, she ran a couple of our errands from food to buying video cables. Ain't she the best. Not surprised she's the Red one in the trio.

The entire experience was a blast. I've worked cons for a Dealer and as an Arist, but never a promotional booth. It's much different, but just as much fun. It was great to talk to the other indie developers and artist. As for the overall reception of the game, everyone had nothing but good things to say.

One last thing. Green or I will be posting some concept art of the game later, so keep checking the blog.

so there ya go readers, our greatest writing asset revealed! The funny thing about it all is that Green and I were already talking about doing something like that waaay before the two had that convo. As for the actual convo, I was about to do our lil mini b/w comic using this exact dialogue, but went ahead and turned it into a full blown comic.

Also, keen to only the most trained eye, there was a subtle art style change. The reason for this is that Green and I were backed up with our other projects, so I didn't get to work on the comic till the very last minute. In fact I worked on it while behind our booth at Too Many Games Expo

I'm here with Feel Every Yummy showing off their new game, but more on that later. Go enjoy the outside, it's all sunny and nice and shit.

So if you’re current with the comic, you’ve seen Bernie drag along two new faces. If you're wondering who they are, Bernie and her two gal pals are none other than the ReGrBladies. Again, I was very excited to see them dressed up at Setsucon, so a little cameo in the comic is the least I can do.

I know what you're thinking, WHAT ABOUT LILY!!?? Don't fret, she's still our main home girl. As for the new two, you may or may not see them again. However, one of the two has already been seen in the comic. I'll probably just keep them for the lighthearted stuff. Not really sure if I can keep up with all these characters without the story getting way too convoluted. Who knows, maybe they might show up again… AS AN EVIL GIRL TRIO TO RIVAL RGB… just an idea.

Hello 2011

Hello internet. Happy 2011

I know I’m a bit tardy with that (like reaallllyy tardy), but I’m sure you’ll understand. With this New Year your friendly neighborhood webcomic has turned three. To kick things off we were invited as guests to Setsucon. Both Green and I provided art work for the con, badge and cover art. I don’t want to bore you with the details of the con so I’ll just go into my favorite moments.

First off, I have to say this con has to be my favorite to attend. Don’t get me wrong Otakon is an experience, but it doesn’t beat the cozy and pleasant atmosphere at a smaller convention. Also, they gave us a panel.

The panel itself was a lot of fun. Big thanks to Blue who actually put together a power point presentation for it. Bigger thanks to those who attended and listen to us ramble.

Another major highlight was that we got our first cosplayers! I was surprised to say the least when I looked up from my table to see them. I was immediately filled with exploding unicorn love juice

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you the ReGrBLadies!

I gotta say we paired up perfectly

Setsucon, as well as other cons, hold an iron cosplay. However, this year they did something new. They wanted the reigning iron cosplayer to return and battle it out with three new challengers. I know what you’re thinking, who’s the reigning iron cosplayer?? I’ll tell you… ReGrBl’s own, Cup.

Apparently a lot of the setsustaff love cup, which I was told countless times by different staffers. So it’s no surprise they wanted him back. Also not a surprise, Iron Cosplayer Cup managed to keep his title. Can anyone dethrone this juggernaut of craft and creativity!?

As for the rest of the con, it was pretty typical. Got to hang with Blue and Blond and drank with two of our readers, always enjoyable. Went to the rave and ran into Carl. Green and I rocked our new light up hoodies made by Cup. Afterwards we headed downtown. Why? You guessed it, gratuitous amounts of drinking. Well this post is getting a bit lengthy so I’ll just drop some pics for your enjoyment.

Calling all artists! A new upcoming trading card game, Conquest Tactics, is in the works and it needs your help! As you may know, card games like YuGiOh and Magic have several cards, meaning several card images.

Meaning Conquest Tactics needs artists! Meaning They Need YOU! They're looking for more diligent artists to join in and help finish all the remaining card images.

Red and myself have been providing artwork for Conquest Tactics and now you can too! So if you or a friend have an interest and/or passion in fantasy art/card art and enjoy illustrating, painting, drawing or any other medium, you can put those skills to work!

You don't have to be a professional to participate just talented. Even if you only draw for a hobby, but think you could provide a decent card image or two, don't be shy and send it in. This won't be all for nothing, if your artwork is accepted you will be compensated for your efforts. Just think, not only would you just be doing something you enjoy, it's also a chance to break into the market for your uniques art skills.

Evans for America

I've been meaning to post this, but I've been sort of busy with other things... *cough*slacker*cough* Anyway so I'm sure several of you have heard that it's been announced that actor Chris Evans is set to play this great nation's legendary icon, Captain America, in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger movie. That's right gents, the actor who played The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies will now be leading the show as Captain America. As much as I completely disagree with the utmost disdain of this casting (as with many other Marvel movies) I still like Chris Evans as an actor. I thought he was perfect playing Johnny Storm, but as mister red-white-n-blue he's got a lot to live up to.

I'm sure I'd be more comfortable with Evans being the Cap'n if he had not been in any other previous Marvel movies. It irks me when a single actor plays multiple superheroes, at least with Ryan Reynolds and Halle Berry had the decency to jump into another comic universe (but I'm still not 100% okay with it).

On the bright side, or rather Red side, they've got Hugo Weaving to play Red Skull! Just in case you aren't familiar with him, he's played Agent Smith from the Matrix, (other credits are Lord of the Rings, Transformers, V for Vendetta).

Getin our fun-on with some butt-ons

So Red came up with this idea to create a button set, themed as Villains. It showcases the evil Professor Villain along with his mechanical creations, KillBot, DeathBot, DieBot, and EnzoBot. Above is what we came up with! We were trying to get these ready for Katsucon (which is this weekend!) but due to all this snow business that mother nature's been ejaculating on our area, it may have to wait, aw shucks.

Tonight we all say farewell conan and fuck you nbc. I mean both Leno and O'Brien are good night time talk show hosts, but i prefer Conan. Why didn't they just fire Jimmy Fallon and given the Late show to Leno? After all this talk about the late night screw up, i came up with this image - cuz it just makes sense. As Teela from Masters of the Universe put it, "Don't say goodbye. Say Good Journey."
